A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

Come And See

By: Elijah Bell

We all know the best way to get someone excited about something is to tell them what that thing means to you personally. Restaurants treat positive reviews like gold because people decide where to eat largely based on reviews and firsthand experiences. People don’t care about ads telling them how to feel, they care about how it had an impact on real people.

I learned this lesson firsthand when I started using an Epson Ecotank printer a few years back, and then I started telling people how well it worked for me. After a few months I started receiving calls and texts from all kinds of people saying, “Didn’t you say you knew of a good printer? I need one. Which do you have?” I didn’t realize I had quietly become an evangelist for Epson printers, but I ended up selling about thirty of them so far without even trying. Epson, I'm waiting for my paycheck in the mail.

The reason I was able to lead so many people to a good printer is because I had firsthand experience with it, and I was able to tell them about how it worked for me. If we want to truly be good evangelists leading people to Jesus, we must have firsthand experience of Him, and be able to tell others about Him.

This Sunday, October 4th, we will look at John 1:29-42 and see a three step process for effective discipleship. First, we see John the Baptist pointing the people in his life to Jesus through his own personal experiences. Second, we see those friends of John following Jesus out of curiosity and Jesus inviting them to “come and see.” No longer is it just about John’s testimony, they are about to experience Jesus for themselves. The third stage of this discipleship process is that the fiends of John who have now personally experienced time with Jesus go and find others and bring them in as well. This is how true discipleship works. It is a chain of people, each being pulled toward Jesus by someone while themselves pulling another closer as well.

This Sunday, Bible class is at 10:00 AM and worship service and the sermon is at 11:00 AM. We hope to see you there as we explore what effective and biblical discipleship looks like as we all “come and see” Jesus for ourselves!
