A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

From Chaos To Peace

By: Elijah Bell

There’s a YouTube channel I have seen (CleanWithBea) of a kind woman who cleans people’s homes for free for those who have gotten to the point in life where they cannot manage it themselves, either due to their old age, disabilities or other struggles or family situations. Many of these homes are in total chaos. Garbage everywhere. Mold on every surface. Grime and filth everywhere you look. It is totally overwhelming and to watch it makes you feel hopeless and lost. Where would you even begin?

This is our lives without Jesus. In Mark 5:1-20, Jesus meets a man with many demons. He has no way of freeing himself. He lives among the tombs, cutting himself with stones, and crying out helplessly. No one can bind him, and he is without order or peace in his life. It makes you feel hopeless and lost. Where would you even begin? We don’t have the answer. But Jesus does.

After Jesus intercedes for the man, everything changes. Jesus is the master cleaner who can come into our lives and put in order what was total chaos. The man is now clothed, sitting down calmly, and in his right mind. The village is shocked. How could any person have done this? The answer? No ordinary person could have. Only the Son of God who is bringing in His new Kingdom of transformation can.

The village folks plead with Jesus to leave, but Jesus has a request, too, for the man whose life was put in order: “Go and tell what God has done for you.” The man does, and later in chapter 7, the region who had pleaded with Jesus to leave is now pleading with Him for healing, too. Jesus is inviting you to a life of transformation, where He rights the chaos in your life, and calls you to share that peace with the world. You never know what a difference you can make!

This Sunday, we’ll look at how Jesus’ power puts right the impossibly chaotic, and how He calls us to share that new peace with the world! We hope to see you this Sunday at 10:00 AM for Bible class, and 11:00 AM for worship when we unpack this powerful lesson!

New Adult Bible Class Begins Sunday

Holly Hill Family,

This Sunday I will teach a quarter or perhaps a bit more on Ephesians. I will be assisted by Elijah. He will teach whenever I am absent and also help with content. As we begin our study of Ephesians I hope I can share it in such a way that you understand why it is considered by many the "Bach of the New Testament" or the "Alps of the New Testament." We will see God's cosmic vision, his purposes, and their fulfillment. I feel the timing for this study is prudent as we are growing and with growth comes challenges and if these are not dealt with in a way that reflects the lessons of Ephesians we will cease to grow or grow in a way that does not honor God.

The last 3-4 classes we will apply Ephesians to elders and integrate with the key passages in the New Testament on elders. We will be starting the process of elder selection sometime this fall or early winter and this will help our congregation prepare for this.

Instead of my usual phrase which I borrowed from Owen Robinson, "I need a little help," I need a lot of help. Below is what I need.

  1. Please be in Bible class the next 12-15 weeks. If you normally skip Bible class, start coming, we need everyone in the congregation that is college age and above.

  2. Please try to read Ephesians each week. If you do not like to read please listen to an audio version.

  3. Pray for this class and that it will shape our congregation to be more like Christ.

  4. Go into this class forgetting everything you know about Ephesians. Let us come to it fresh. Let the Bible speak.

  5. Let us also come to this study with humility, wonder, and awe.

Our first class will not even deal with Ephesians as we will look at a teaching of Jesus that will prepare us to study Ephesians. I am excited to teach and blessed to study Ephesians with you. See you Sunday.

- Robert Roach
