A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

The New Creation

As I stepped outside on Tuesday morning and saw a fresh and pristine blanket of snow covering everything, it made the world seem like a totally different place. The beauty. The possibilities. The freshness. This is what a new creation is all about. Just as God created the world new, fresh and perfect in Genesis 1, and even after that creation was corrupted by sin, Jesus came to bring about a new creation to make all things new again.

In Mark 1:9 and following, we see Jesus' baptism, the official beginning of His ministry- A new creation! The parallels to the first creation account in Genesis are undeniable. In Genesis, we see water covering the earth, and then the Spirit of God hovering, then the voice of God to create all things perfect and new. In Mark's gospel, we see that Jesus was baptized in water, with the Spirit hovering like a dove, and a voice of God calling from heaven. We are supposed to equate Jesus' baptism with the beginning of His new creation which will make all things new.

Then, after His baptism, we see Him beginning the new creation right away with His defeat of Satan in the wilderness, His beginning to reach the new Kingdom of God, which He said was "at hand," and his calling of His first disciples and healing unclean spirits. The message is clear: Jesus Kingdom brings about a new beginning, fixing the problems that were created from our sin which corrupted the first creation.

We'll look at all this in more detail this Sunday as we ask the question: "Am I part of Jesus' new creation?" We look forward to seeing you all this Sunday!
