The Day Of The Lord

A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

The Day of the Lord

By: Elijah Bell

Doesn’t it seem like there are so many people living in constant fear of the future? Maybe this describes you? Maybe you’re worried about the state of the world or our country and you are concerned about the next generation. Or perhaps your fears are more specific and personal—an upcoming exam, medical treatment, or big event. Either way, when we are constantly concerned and confused about the future, it tends to cause us to live in fear and discouragement, keeping us from the joyful and fruitful lives we are called to in Christ.

In 1 Thessalonians, the young church was confused about the Day of the Lord and what would happen to those who had already died when Jesus returns. Paul writes this book to help them be encouraged and informed so they could live joyful, fruitful lives while waiting with hope for Jesus’ coming.

We’ll look at chapter five this Sunday where Paul outlines three things about the Day of the Lord that he wants them to understand: First, the Day of the Lord surprises the unprepared. These are those who have fallen asleep spiritually and become ‘drunk,’ who are in darkness. Second, the Day of the Lord sobers believers. Because we are informed about what is to come, we are of the day, and put on faith and love and hope, being sober and awake spiritually. Third, the Day of the Lord sanctifies the church. Because we live in hope of the coming of Christ, we are different than the world. We live for others, have lives of joy, and live in trusting submission to God’s Spirit.

Please join us this upcoming Sunday, August 16, at 10:00 AM for Bible class and 11:00 AM for worship service as we learn about and prepare for the Day of the Lord. We hope to see you there!
