A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

Five Loaves & Two Fish

Article By: Elijah Bell

We are in a sermon series on meals with Jesus. Our first one was about the meal with Jesus at the wedding of Cana in John 2, where Jesus shows Himself to be the one who can bring about a new creation in the lives of those who believe Him. Last Sunday we looked at Jesus eating with tax collectors and sinners in Matthew 9, and how it shows that Jesus extends mercy to all, inviting them to change.

This Sunday, we will look at perhaps the most famous meal of Jesus (besides the Last Supper), the feeding of the five thousand in Mark 6:30-44. In this passage, we will notice the contrasts between the people and Jesus, and how it shows Jesus is our Great Shepherd, our Provider.

The contrasts are stark in this passage: We are needy, while our Shepherd is compassionate. We look for our nourishment in the world, whereas our Shepherd invites us to find the nourishment we need with Him. We have very little to offer, next to nothing compared to the need at hand, yet our Shepherd can use even the smallest amount to provide bountifully. This is a beautiful passage and shows how when we share a meal with Jesus we can rely on Him fully as our Shepherd to nourish and sustain us.

We look forward to seeing you this Sunday! As a reminder we are celebrating Feasting For Fellowship in February. Please invite someone from the church to share a meal with you, and write your name on the calendar in the lobby. We look forward to sharing fellowship together this month through meals as we also share with our Shepherd, Jesus!

  • Tech Team Support

The Holly Hill Tech Team needs help. We would love to have a few more people trained and available to set up the livestreams and audio equipment. It’s a fairly simple task and you’ll be well trained before being thrown into the seat alone. If you’re interested, see David Jones, Brad Gregory, or Brad Proctor.

  • Meal Train & Potluck Ministry

If you’d like to help a family in need of a meal or sign up to bring a dish to a potluck, please contact Robin Mayes.

  • Greeting Card Ministry

Every Sunday there are cards spread out on a table in the auditorium, right in front of the nursery window, which will be sent out to various church members and guests who need encouragement. You can help serve and encourage by making sure to sign these cards each week. If you know someone who would benefit from receiving a card from the church, please provide the name and address to Joyce Best. We will have “Get Well” cards, “Thinking of You” cards, “Praying For You” cards, and “Sympathy” cards.
