The Kingdom Is In Your Midst

This 4th of July, as we watched the firework display from the church parking lot, Katie and I kept complaining; the fireworks didn’t “boom” loudly enough. For whatever reason—the distance, the humidity in the air, the wind direction—the explosion sounds of the semi quincentennial show were lackluster. We wanted to feel it in our bones! We were more concerned about the showiness of the 250th anniversary of our country than we were about what that anniversary actually MEANT — patience over centuries, hard work, sacrifice, bravery.
I wonder how many of us have treated the Kingdom of God like a fireworks show. I’ve been guilty of it. You probably have, too. We want proof of God’s working in our lives and in the church in big, flashy, explosive ways. We want to see huge numbers of kids at VBS. We want to count the baptisms we’ve had and announce them publicly. We want the community to “ooo” and “ahh” at our growth. In other words, we want to feel the “boom” in our bones while quietly forgetting what those things ACTUALLY represent—sacrifice, service, and submission under King Jesus.
The Scribes and the Pharisees wanted this same thing. They asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God was coming (Luke 17:20-21). When would they feel the “boom”? Jesus patiently teaches them that the Kingdom doesn’t come in with flashy displays. In fact, it’s already in their midst in the form of a solitary healed leper. This leper recognized his unclean state before God. He knew to call out to Jesus. And upon his healing, he turned around to submit to the King. It wasn’t loud or flashy. It wasn’t seen by others. The Kingdom didn’t come in with an explosive fireworks display; it came in through the gentle submission of a pure heart.
This Sunday, July 26, we will look at Luke 17 and learn what it means when the Kingdom is in our midst. Please join us at 10 AM for Bible class and 11 AM for worship as we praise God together and welcome His Kingdom into our lives.

Meal Train For Mary Mundt

Everyone is invited to join us for this year's Relay For Life on Friday, August 7, beginning at 5:00 PM at Capital City Airport!
Relay For Life is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones we've lost, and support the life-changing work of the American Cancer Society. Whether you stay for a little while or the entire evening, your presence helps make a difference.
We'll have food trucks, fun activities—including a Cake Walk—and a great evening of fellowship, so don't forget to bring your lawn chair!
We're also looking for one volunteer to bake a cake for the Cake Walk. If you're able to help, we'd love to hear from you!
If you'd like to support the event before August 7, donations are also being accepted. We especially appreciate donations of bottled water and soda. To make a donation or volunteer to help, please see Scott Trent or Sarah Jones.

Aug 8 | Young Folks Hangout - Bowling Night
All young adults are invited to join us for a fun evening of bowling and fellowship on Saturday, August 8, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Capitol Bowl (80 Anderson Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601).
The cost will be finalized once we have a headcount but is expected to be approximately $13–$15 per person, which includes shoe rental.

Tech Team Support
The Holly Hill Tech Team is in need of additional help! We are currently looking for a few more volunteers who would be willing to be trained to assist with setting up livestreams and audio equipment.
This is a fairly simple task, and you will receive thorough training before ever serving on your own. Whether you have prior experience or are completely new to the process, we would love for you to consider helping with this important ministry.

Meal Train & Potluck Ministry
The Holly Hill Meal Train & Potluck Ministry is available for those who would like to assist families in need by providing meals or contributing dishes for potluck gatherings. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Robin Mayes for additional information.
Youth Ministry
Holly Hill is beginning the process of searching for a Children and Youth Minister. The Evangelistic Committee — Scott Trent, David Jones, Tom Owens, Jeff Jones, and Robert Roach — would greatly appreciate your suggestions, recommendations, and input as we begin this important work.
Please keep this position, our congregation, and the search committee that will be formed in the coming days in your prayers. We ask for God’s guidance and wisdom throughout this process as we seek the right individual to serve and help lead our children and youth ministries.
Children’s Ministry
We’re looking for heroes within our congregation to step up and serve in our Children’s Bible Class ministry! Whether you’re interested in teaching or simply helping out, this is a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting impact at Holly Hill. Greeting Card Ministry
Every Sunday there are cards spread out on a table in the auditorium, right in front of the nursery window, which will be sent out to various church members and guests who need encouragement. You can help serve and encourage by making sure to sign these cards each week. If you know someone who would benefit from receiving a card from the church, please provide the name and address to Joyce Best. We will have “Get Well” cards, “Thinking of You” cards, “Praying For You” cards, and “Sympathy” cards.
Shriners Children’s Hospital
