A Short Message To Get You Excited For Sunday’s Worship Service.

But God…

By: Elijah Bell

Relying on the wrong power source can get you in trouble sometimes. A few months ago, I had two AA batteries in my pocket along with my keys while out visiting a church member. My pocket started to get very hot and smoke until I realized the batteries were there, and I quickly took them out. It was definitely an unwanted power source. I had done something similar when I was a kid, creating one big power loop with one of those science power kits, and having the whole thing start melting until my mom noticed. I didn’t get to play with that kit again.

In the book of Ephesians, the church, located in a pagan city which practiced ritualistic worship to demonic gods (Artemis cf. Acts 19), was coming out of a reliance upon the wrong power source: The “ruler of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:1). They were learning what it meant to live by a new power source—God’s Spirit (Ephesians 3:20). They were learning how destructive it was to live by the wrong power source, and how they were transformed through God’s Spirit in the church.

Ephesians 2 shows the disaster of a life lived according to the wrong power. We all had “conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest” (Ephesians 2:3). Following this bleak picture of life outside of the ultimate power source are perhaps the two most powerful words in all the Bible: “But God…”

That "but" changes everything. It empowers us to turn a story of chaos into one of victory. This Sunday, we will be looking at Ephesians 2 and exploring the incredible difference relying on the power of God makes. The lesson, titled "But God…” will look at three amazing things God has empowered us to be: First, we'll see how “But God made us alive," (Ephesians 2:1-10) moving us from where we once were to a new life in Christ, created for good works. Then, we'll examine how “But God made us one" (Ephesians 2:11-18), breaking down walls of division and giving us unified access to the Father. Finally, we will discuss how “But God made us holy" (Ephesians 2:19-22), transforming the church from strangers into the holy collective dwelling place for God Himself.

We hope you will join us for this message to see how God is empowering YOU to be transformed! Come be a part of our Bible class at 10:00 AM and stay for our worship service at 11:00 AM to hear more! We hope to see you there!
